Wednesday Afternoon, December 26, 2007

The long Christmas weekend is over and not much has changed.

Dave spent the holidays with friends and family. On Christmas Eve, the family got together at our sister Peggy’s home which is slightly less than a mile from the hospital. That allowed for visits from family members. We had considered moving the party to the hospital lounge but determined it would be a bit overwhelming.

On Christmas, Dave spent the day with Marla, his children, and grand children.

His treatments are working, albeit slowly. His patience is amazing. The highlight of his days are when we read him the messages on this blog, the emails through me at JoeAltman@Altmans.com, and the cards he gets. For all of you who have sent him a message, thank you. And keep up the good work.

Hi Dave:

I was happy to read that you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. I wanted to share a personal connection that I have to Casa Colina since you are spending a little while longer in their care. I am not sure if you knew that one of my sons has Down Syndrome. He is 20 now and is living in a group home in Claremont that is supported and staffed by Casa Colina as part of it's program known as "Padua Village". He also participates in Outdoor Adventures, which is another Casa Colina program that allows folks with physical and developmental disabilities to experience all sorts of wonderful outings. I am so happy that you are in the capable hands of the staff there and hope you are encouraged by the slow, steady progress that it sounds like you are making.

Tomorrow I will be heading out to your home golf course, Via Verde, with some friends ( a prize I won at a Casa Colina charity tournament!) and will say a little prayer on the 1st tee that you will be back soon teeing it up with your friends.

All the best Dave and God bless you as the New Year draws closer.

Dearest Davie Altman 'king of the big RV's' Phil said it was so good to see you last week and he hopes to stop by tomorrow too ! We talk about you all the time, and Marla too, we are praying, praying ! I spoke to Marla on Mon. I think it was, and I told her when you are up to setting your lap top up (on your lap...heh heh..) then I will bring my cd of the cruise photos and see which ones of mine you might like to have ....I know there are some of yours I would like ! Phil put our pics in an albumn and we will bring that too....when you are ready that is. You are such an inspiration to us all, Dave...you tirelessly do your therapy, and it is working ! I think it was Steve who said you lightly squeezed his hand with your left hand !!! That is wonderful !! Great news ! We will miss the New Year's Bunco with all of you at Altmanland, but you will be with us in spirit for sure....we had a good Christmas and Christmas eve with lots of family, I am pooped ! Dishes dishes and more dishes, but so happy to have had all the family over, and I know you enjoyed seeing your grandchildren too ! What joy they are ! Guess what ? Phil and I went to Scripps for the whole day last Wed. and got a complete workup and the Dr. said my bloodwork came back with the cholestoral of a marathon runner !!! Ha ! I haven't been to the gym in a year...Phil goes and his was not too good....I have been on 2 meds for high choles. and it worked !!! Woo Hoo ! I surely appreciated all of the people who have dedicated their lives to making these meds we all take that are helping us to have good health...so you take whatever they give you, it's good for you
:-) Well, must run now...hope to see you soon, I love you, Lorikins

Dave, I saw this scripture and because you have been working hard now for over a month toward your recovery it seems appropriate.
Hebrews 4:18 says "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Judy and I are praying for that help from God for you. And I pray that you keep your confidence solid as it has been for all these years.
