Well, I guess there was more news. Dave had entertainment on Sunday night from his neighbors who are excellent singers, some thoughts he wanted to pass on to his friends, family, and business associates, and treatment is beginning.
My dear, dear, sweet brother had the bright idea to tell one specialist that his voice was annoying to him and the other, a Dr. Chow, received a new name - the Chowmaster. Oh that's gonna ensure great treatment!
Time for damage control.
I now have the wireless modem in my laptop functioning properly so the updates can be even more timely. As I'm typing, I'm racking my brain trying to find someone to blame for the news blackout over the weekend. I've not come to a conclusion as of yet, but have faith -- I can and will find the true culprit. I know it was not merely a part of me being lazy -- that one's for sure.
I have had some requests for guest writers. Well one. From a pushy brother in law. I'll include his input on the next update.

Hello Dave (and Joe), I am so excited to be the first one to comment today! I would apologize for not communicating sooner but one Mrs. Tana Burris from Wheeler Advertising in Arlington, TX (maybe you know her?) did not get this information to me until Saturday night. And my husband and I were on our way to a wedding for which we were already quite late. I am so glad Joe has kept up this blog because Tana could not have filled me in as well as he has. I cannot blame her, though, as I was sorely distracted at the time of her call what with our careening down the interstate at high speed and my husband threatening to take an alternate route ("it's faster!" he claimed). By the way, we did make it to the wedding on time but just barely. And I'm talking skidding into a parking space, running up the chapel steps 2-at-a-time, bursting through the sanctuary doors and collapsing into the back pew moments before the organ started. I hope everyone could hear the couple's vows over my husband and I sucking wind in the back.
All humor aside, I was flabbergasted to hear this news. I'm sure that comes nowhere close to how you and your family have felt the past several days. Of course you all will be in my prayers. I truly miss the daily interaction I used to have with you and Danelle and even Joe (and Dennis and Darylin and Patrick and Bob and Gary and Mike and more who requested my assistance on various marketing projects). I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've received a pdf file containing artwork with various sticky note comments attached to it (ala Joe). How quickly life does change!
I'll be checking this blog during and up to the time you get up and walk out with this thing beaten. I hope today is a great day for you! ~Paula
Okay so looking back over things I realize I was NOT the first person to comment today but I was the first person to comment on Joe's Noonday post. Just wanted to let you know that I DO still know how to work the internet even though my computer skills don't get quite the workout they used to :) ~Paula
David:
I was very shocked when I received the telephone call from your brother on Friday, November 23rd. We had spoken on Wednesday and I was looking forward to seeing you at Louisville and most excited about your participation at the RVI Prayer Breakfast. On Wednesday morning I did not have any more knowledge about your situation but did share with the audience my conversation with your brother. I did not want any from the audience to leave when they realized the MC was not David Altman.
Since I learned of your situation you have been in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Dave, I am so glad that you were able to have the football games on Sat. I am really glad that I was able to visit with you and see you last week, even with the blow-out going home.
My Chinise friend sent you a blog but I do not see it so I will copy it and add it to this note.
I am praying for great care, good rest, good test results and proper treatment to begin soon.
Love ya like a brother

Hi Dave,
This is Wei CHEN, we met in a Thai restaurant with my mom, Gary Hiner and your wife this July 2007 at LA area. I heard it from Gary, sorry for the news... We wish you get well soon, and hope you are back to your home soon -- hey, we have not discussed how much discount you are going to give to us if I decide to buy an RV from you :-)
God bless you.
Sincerely,
Wei
Hi Dave, We just discovered today that you were sick. Mary was calling to confirm an appointment for Marla and listened to the message on the answering machine. All of us wish you a FULL and speedy recovery so that you can get back out on the golf course. I expect you to be routing for Ohio State on Jan. 7th. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Steve (Skurow)
Dear Dave: We are all wishing you the very best and a speedy recovery. You are in our daily prayers. Sincerely, Rick & Judy Pedevill

Dear Dave,
We missed you and Marla this weekend at our Magis dinner with Archbishop Myers. We prayed for you at Mass. You will continue to be in the prayers of all of us.
Yours in Christ,
Todd Inman
Dave,
We love you and thank you for all you have taught us. Our Sunday School class is praying for you and Marla, eventhough they are a bunch of Nazarenes!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Hall of Fame in 2008.
Your friends,
Gary and Jan Motley
All I got to say Altman is you better get well soon. The way I got it figured you already owe me $78 for the "Hoagland Skins Game" and with you missing in action I don't have anyone to give a hearty handshake. If it sounds like we miss you here at Via Verde it's because we do. News of your hospitalization has made my becoming "all atwitter" on the course pretty insignificant. So get well soon.
Dave,
My friend and fellow Glendora Rotarian Pat Janes passed along your e-mail and blog address.
You may not know that I am in recovery following a allogeneic (unrelated donor) stem cell transplant at City of Hope. My blog tells that story, but you will find no stronger booster for City of Hope than the Foxworths. You are in good hands, for sure.
God bless you in your care process and path to recovery. With Him, all things are possible.
Dave,
Not sure if our original message made it on your blog. Mary and I enjoyed meeting you and your wife in Colorado Springs (Legatus International Fall Summit). You and your family are in our prayers. Let us know if we can be of any assistance.
Joseph & Mary Janiczek
Uncle Dave,
Chris and I tried to post a message this weekend but I did not see it on the board. I think we did it wrong.... Oh well. I am sitting here at my computer reading the comments to your blog and I am honored to say that you are my uncle and most importantly my Godfather. The strength that you show everyday is amazing. I have shared your story with some teachers at the school and everyone of them asked what your name is so they can add you to their daily prayers. I "know" that you will beat this #@%& that is inside your body right now. Pull the strength from all of your family and friends and show that cancer will NEVER get you. I love you and I can't wait to hear you tell stories at the dinner table of how you beat cancer. See you soon.

God-daughter Deedee
Hi Dave,
There is much I love about my former profession, but if you had discussed your current misadventure with me in advance, I would have advised against it. Hangin' out in hospitals and consorting with doctors are not good hobbies.
Kathy and I are as chagrined as anyone about your situation. We don't have all of the facts, but they're not necessary for us to want to share our love, respect, high hopes and prayers with you. It's frustrating to be a long way from you. On the other hand, I've spent a lot of frustrating bedside time in my day. What is not frustrating is that you are in a great location, you are a strong (is that how you spell stubborn?) man surrounded by family and you are immersed in faith. If you lacked any of those things, I would be praying them into your life. It's a relief not to have to, and instead to be able to be thankful as well as concerned.
Being sick can provoke a peculiarly poignant sort of reflection and perspective. It can be a good thing to be cornered into seeing yourself as you are seen by the Lord and by people who love you. I'm not anxious to repeat the experience myself, but I wouldn't want to have missed it.
Laughter is not the best medicine. Being in a hospital is a lot like being out of one: love and faith are the good medicines. And large doses are good.
Please let us know if we can be of any assistance other than remote prayer.
Joe's a good Blog Brother, despite his protestations. Thanks, Joe!
Hi Dave,
I was suprised to hear the news from Louisville. I want you to know that I am keeping you in my prayers and pray for a speedy recovery. I'm glad to hear that you are still able to watch Football though and hopefully they will allow visitors soon. Take Care and I look forward to seeing you at our next Redex Meeting. By the way Joe thanks for keeping up the Blog and all of your work.
God Bless

Mr. Dave,
My name is Chandler Tullis. I am good friends with Craig LeBlanc here in Baton Rouge. I am in Regnum Christi and am on the Advisory Board of the Catholic School that you spoke at here Cypress Heights Academy.
I've only had the pleasure of meeting you once, but that one time was a very memorable one. You are a very special person who God has given some very special gifts! I remember thinking after meeting you how impressed I was by your character and faith and how much I'd love to get to know you if you were in Louisiana and not California.
I look forward to seeing you again and to getting to know you better after you've taken care of the important business at hand. I'm sure you will handle it as successfully as you have everything else in life.
You are going to be constantly in our thoughts and prayers and I will most definitely offer Mass for you this week as well as my Holy Hour on Wednesday night here in Baton Rouge.
Take care and God bless!
In Christ,
Chandler and Amy Tullis

Hello from Nebraska
Dave:
I hope that everything is starting to go well and that you won't need this blog for long.
You are in my prayers.

Dave - the whole staff at the Hall of Fame has you continuously in our/thoughts. we need you to get well to be able to keep reign on squeeky Carl. He is way beyond our control. glad to hear you are getting underway. Molino has taken over getting the Hall of Fame election process handled for the RV side and there is no doupt that he will do it with the respect and integrity it deserves. Al
Hi, Dave. Tom Hoagland summed it up pretty well. You are sorely missed by your many, many friends at Via Verde. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. The guys in "The Game" are really missing you - I think they need the money. And I still need to pay you back for getting me involved in the Board. We miss you.

Hello Dave and Family. I have been a loyal reader of your blog and have read all the wonderful comments and I had a certain image come to mind. I see the Verizon commercial with the loyal subscriber and his support network of thousands behind him. I can see Dave that you have been blessed with a very loyal and loving network of family and friends that are behind you. I have lost count but I think your family alone comes somewhere near a thousand. I bet the hospital had no idea when they limited visitors to family only. I would guess they are checking ID's at the door by this point. Dave, I wanted to let you know the entire Hartfelder family(not as large as the Altman klan but formidable just the same) is thinking of you and wishing you well. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers and we are confident that you will be feeling better. Please consider me a part of your loyal, loving network and call on me if I can help. I look forward to seeing you soon. Jack and Family
Hi Dave,
I heard that you will be losing your hair. Although Joe can wear the Kojak look and still look quite fetching (hmmm, don't dogs do the fetching?) ... no fear, I am here .. I happen to have 8 wigs left over from my bout with chemo.
Would you like the red short doo or the brown with highlights? The long blonde one might be fun for a 60's party you could host! There's a curly one you could sport for a 3 Stooges party .. of course, Joe will have to play the bald guy: Curly!
Let me know if you need them all or just a few. Oh and send pictures!
Prayers and love,
Kelly Adams
Hi Dave and Marla.Jan and I just got home from the Nazarene church where we prayed for you. I am fixing to write an article about the technicalities of propane. I cannot decide whether to have you or Larry McClain proof read it for proper content. What do you think? If you have any ideas how I can get Larry's credit card let me know. thanks, Gary and Jan Motley
