Memorial Video

I'm sorry but the link in the previous posting was updated and I was unaware it changed. Here's the correct link to Dave's Memorial Video:

http://web.mac.com/jonezin/iWeb/Site/Dave%20Altman.html

It may be necessary to download Apple's free QuickTime player if you don't already have it. Many websites require it so chances are it's on your computer already BUT if it isn't click on this link first.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

I'm very sorry for all this confusion. I just checked it and it's working fine with Quick Time 7.4 .

Thanks again, Joe. We have really appreciated all your efforts on the blog. Dave will always remain in our hearts as a special part of our lives.

We were so fortunate to be with Marla & Dave on that last cruise.

God bless all.
Love,
Barb & Jerry

Hello,

My name is Ronda and I worked at the Carson Altman's location from Sept. 2006 until March 2007. My husband and I were driving past the Baldwin Park location last week when I noticed that it looked very empty. I was wondering what was going on so I went on the internet to see if I could find anything about it. Google let me know that there is a freeway widening project.

But very, very sadly, I also discovered this blog, and I am very saddened to hear about Dave's death.

I would like to share the impression that Dave left on me while I worked at Altman's.

I met Dave once or twice very briefly when he came into the Carson location, and he was, of course, very friendly. The only other time I spoke to him was at the Christmas party that year. So the amount of time I've ever spoken to him is probably 3 minutes, but what REALLY, REALLY struck me is that at the Christmas party, Dave remembered my name! He remembered my name and I didn't even work at the location that he worked at and had only spoken to him once or twice.

I turned to my husband and I said, "That's so nice! Dave Altman, THE Dave Altman, remembered MY name!... You know his brother over there, the bald-headed one... (sorry, Joe) He's the Vice President of the company and I work with him all the time, but he just calls me "Come be part of our Family"...it really, really struck me, I really don't know how to put it in words.

That encounter with Dave Altman made me happy working for his company and because of that ONE special encounter, it made me want to come back to work for Altman's after I gave birth in March. (Which unfortunately didn't happen, though)

One more story: Around Christmas time, again, Joe has asked me to change our greeting from "We're having a great day here at Altman's Winnebago, where may I direct your call?" to "We're having a Merry Christmas here at Altman's Winnebago, where may I direct your call?" or something along those lines...

I said to Joe:
"Is that okay if we say Merry Christmas? I don't think it is politically correct" and Joe replied with, "We don't care about politically correct at Altman's. If someone gives you a hard time about it, they're not the type of customers that we want, anyway."

From little things like this, I can tell that you are all such a great family. I feel priveledged that I was able to work for Dave for a short time.

I am very, very sorry to hear the about Dave. You're all in my prayers.

God Bless,
Ronda-Sue Lang

Tina,I so hope that you get this email. My Aunt Carole today sent in the mail the article reguarding you Dads illness and passing. I am so very sorry. I hope that he wasn't in a lot of pain and that the Lord took him quickly.I want to end this note on a happy thought about your Dad. I remember spending the night at your house and waking up in the morning to the great horror of seeing your Dad in his underware!!! As a young teen from a really uptight family I found my self so unequipt to hand myself well at that site. Now, as a Mom of a 10 year old and a 12 year old, I shreek in horror if my husband just thinks of walking around in his boxers if the kids have friends over!!! I say...honey, that is something that will stay with the poor kids forever!!! I love you so very much Christina and hope that God has and will richly bless your life and the lives of your family. Your Dad was great!! Your "Old" Best friend Kathy (Stringfellow)Fiscus
